| The Fixed-Wing ARNG Training Site conducts individual aircrew training in fixed-wing aircraft operated by the Army National Guard. The facility's emphasis is on aircraft and instructor qualification courses under the Total Army School System, as well as standardization and safety training for US Army and National Guard agencies.
The 35,000 square foot facility is the only US Army structure designed specifically for fixed-wing training. Its impressive hangar features vertically hung doors, translucent lighting panels, and a 4,000 pound capacity overhead crane that traverses across 75 percent of the hangar work area.
The facility also includes administrative offices, a flight operations area, a flight planning room with automated weather and flight planning capability, and a computer-assisted classroom with distance learning and video teleconferencing equipment. A simulator training room is planned to house FAA-certified flight training devices for initial, recurrent and advanced training.
Since Opening at the Aerospace Complex in 1992, the Army National Guard has trained approximately two hundred aircrew members per year. Commanding Officers of the site have said the unit's growing reputation has been very positive, since it hosts Army aviators and flight engineers from across the country and student critiques routinely state that their training experience and stay in West Virginia was the finest in their military and aviation careers. |
